Community Advisory Board

As a recipient of Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) funds, WPFW is required to have a Community Advisory Board (CAB).  The CAB operates independently of WPFW’s management and its Local Station Board (LSB). We have no operational or day-to-day role in finance, personnel, programming, or in any other matter. Our independence ensures our ability to advise the LSB and station objectively.

The function of the CAB is to review the station’s programming goals, services provided by the station, and any significant policy decisions made by the station. We serve as a vehicle for the community to effectively provide input to the LSB and Programming Director. The CAB advises the LSB and Programming Director with respect to whether the programming and other policies of WPFW are meeting the specialized education and cultural needs of the communities served by the station, and may make recommendations we deem appropriate to meet these needs.

As outlined in the WPFW CAB bylaws, the CAB consists of up to 12 members, including three officers - chairperson, vice-chair, and secretary. There are four committees within the CAB – Programming, Outreach, Bylaws and Membership, and Fundraising. Each member serves on at least two committees. Each committee is lead by a committee chair who reports to the CAB chair.

The CAB meets on the third Monday of the month to discuss and plan initiatives related to the review of the station’s programming goals, the services provided by the station, and any significant policy decisions made by the station. We engage with the LSB and the staff to undertake community outreach activities that help define the cultural and educational needs of the community. This might involve holding a series of public meetings, conducting listener surveys, acting as a soundboard for WPFW’s Programming Director, or assisting with outreach activities in the community.

CAB members serve one two-year term, with the option to renew for one additional term. Members of the CAB must be actively engaged in CAB initiatives. This includes attending monthly meetings, sitting on at least two committees, productively contributing to discussions and planning sessions, and taking ownership of assignments as needed.

Any listener who is not a paid staff member, programmer of the station or the Pacifica Foundation, or member of the LSB can apply for membership on the CAB. To be considered for CAB membership, please complete the CAB Membership Application and submit it with your resume to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The CAB accepts and reviews all applications on a rolling basis. Final candidates are selected and notified by the CAB.

For community related concerns or issues please e-mail the CAB at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

CAB MEETING NEWS

Please take a few minutes to share your ideas anonymously with WPFW's CAB on how the station can provide programming that best serves the community's listening priorities. By completing  WPFW's 2024 Annual Community Needs Assessment questionnaire, you ensure that your opinion on the station's programming is heard and included in the development of its programs and activities. Here's a link to the online survey:
